Welcome to the Maplewood Art Room!

Maplewood is thrilled to offer Art as a special for our students with our Art teacher, Chrissy Rowan and Erica Huber.

Chrissy Rowan's words....

My hope is that the art room is a place where kids feel safe to be themselves, try new things, and have fun. I love teaching kids to notice, love, and be inspired by the world around us. The art room is a place where we foster creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression through visual arts. We build confidence, appreciate diverse cultures, and connect art to broader learning and our maplewood community. I pride myself on giving choice in the art room and encouraging students to become innovative, resourceful, and lifelong learners. Everyone is an artist! 

My name is Chrissy Rowan and I am delighted to be a part of the Maplewood community. I have been teaching in PPS for over ten years. I live in North East Portland with my husband and two sweet kids. I am originally from the East Coast but have called Portland home for the better part of two decades. In my time outside of school I love to hike, ride bikes, knit, bake, and especially make ceramics.
